How to Spend One Day in Capri

Capri is one of the most beautiful destinations in Italy. It’s the perfect holiday destination with its charming atmosphere, magical sights, delicious limoncello, and luxury brands. As the island of Capri takes around 30 minutes from Sorrento and one hour from Naples, you can easily combine it with your Amalfi Coast itinerary. One day in Capri is perfect for exploring the main attractions and a boat trip around the island of Capri.

One Day in Capri

Because Capri is an island, you can only get there by sea. Ferries frequently depart from Naples and Sorrento. During the peak season, ferries also run from Positano, Amalfi, Salerno, and Ischia.

Arrival from Sorrento to Capri: You can reach the port of Sorrento by climbing down the steps of Piazza Tasso which takes about 10 minutes. The Capri ferries depart from the Marina Piccola harbor of Sorrento, where you can easily take the public ferry.
A one-way ticket costs €19.50 and take around 30 minutes.

We recommend sitting on the left side to enjoy the view. Once you arrive at the harbor of Marina Grande, you can take some great photos. Then have breakfast and a coffee in one of the restaurants and decide how to spend one day in Capri. The island of Capri has two municipalities, Capri and Anacapri.

You can visit Anacapri by renting a scooter at the port which costs €55/day or by taking the local bus. The bus journey takes 10-15 minutes and costs €2.

Anacapri is ideal for those who prefer a more relaxed atmosphere or budget travelers. Anacapri is located at the highest point of the island, a pleasant relaxation from the bustle of Capri town. From the top of Monte Solaro, you can see one of the most beautiful panoramas of Capri.

The easiest way to get to Monte Solaro is by cable car, which takes just 13 minutes, a return ticket costs €12, and a one-way ticket costs €9.
Operating hours are from 9.30 to 5.30 from May to October.

Don’t miss Capri’s most popular attractions magnificent Blue Grotto sea cave and the Punta Carena lighthouse. Both sights you can easily reach by bus, taxi, or scooter from the center of Anacapri or the Marina Grande port.

From Marina Grande, you can reach Capri town in 30 minutes on foot or the quickest way is to take the funicular. You can buy tickets at the ticket office near the cable car station, and the funiculars run every 15 minutes, the journey time is 4 minutes and the ticket costs €2.

The Piazzetta is one of the most famous squares in Capri, where you can find shops of the most fashionable brands and where you can take a lunch break or taste a refreshing limoncello.

The Gardens of August is one of the most beautiful places on the island of Capri. A magnificent park with flowers, sculptures, and two breathtaking views of the cliffs of Faraglioni and the spectacular curves of the Via Krupp. The route to the Augustus Gardens takes you right through the center of Capri town, where you can stop for shopping or look around the fashion boutiques.

As it can be visited quickly and costs just €1 to admission, don’t miss this wonderful place on your 1 day Capri itinerary.
Opening hours from April to October from 9 AM to 7.30 PM or from November to March from 9 AM to 4.30 PM.

We recommend planning your visit in the early morning or late afternoon when it’s less crowded. The Via Krupp is often closed due to the danger of falling rocks from the surrounding cliffs. But if it is open, it is well worth the hike.

After enough time in the August Gardens, continue your Capri itinerary and walk down to La Fontelina or Da Luigi ai Faraglioni beach club. From the Gardens of August, you can reach La Fontelina beach in about 35 minutes, and there is an entrance fee to the beach clubs. As the beautiful viewpoint in the photo is in front of the beach club, you can take some pictures here for free.

Boat trip around the island

There are many tours to choose from on the island of Capri, but to avoid long waits and disappointment, we strongly recommend booking in advance. Whether you choose a private or group boat tour depends on your preference and budget.

A boat trip to Capri is a fantastic experience, the best way to discover the island.
We booked a group boat tour through Viator, which took about 2 hours and cost €70/person.

Boat trip on the Island of Capri

We were happy with our group boat tour experience, the staff was friendly informative, and the activities were enjoyable.

During the tour, we were able to see the white and green caves and then enjoy the Faraglioni cliffs from a different perspective. We snorkeled in the beautiful sea and completed the tour with delicious limoncello and snacks.

Some boat tours don’t include a visit to the Blue Grotto sea cave due to the long wait and difficult access. But you can visit it after the cruise, the fastest way to reach it is by bus from Anacapri or by boat from Marina Grande.
The Blue Grotto is open every day from 9 AM to 5 PM, and the entrance fee is €14.

If you’re planning a day trip to Capri, always check the weather. Because in bad weather conditions, the boat tours may be canceled.
