This natural wonder is located in a privately owned area and is easily accessible on foot. The best time to visit is at sunset, but during the day it is also worth exploring the cave and then relaxing on the beach.

Where is Tal Mixta Cave?
Tal Mixta Cave (L-Għar tal-Mixta in Maltese) is a stunning natural cave located near the charming village of Nadur, offering breathtaking panoramic views of Ramla Bay on the island of Gozo, Malta.
How to Get to Tal Mixta Cave
The island is very small, so wherever you stay, you can easily reach it. Most people come from Victoria (Rabat) by car or bus. You can get there by car in about 15-20 minutes.
Uber and Bolt are affordable on the island and can save you time if you don’t want to take the bus.
Alternatively, book a full-day jeep tour from Malta to Gozo with lunch and a boat ride via Viator or GetYourGuide.
By Public Transport
Take the bus No. 302 from Victoria Bay 2 stop to Ramla Bay. Buses run every hour from 06:05 to 22:05, and the journey time is approximately 20-30 minutes. After getting off the bus, you can walk about 5 minutes to Ramla Bay and then hike up to Tal Mixta Cave.
Alternatively, get off at the Qasab bus stop and from there walk to the cave, which takes about 30 minutes. Once you’ve explored it, descend to the bay, which takes about 10 minutes. Walk along the beach, then catch another bus at Ramla for further adventures.
The bus ticket costs 2.50 EUR in summer, 2 EUR in winter, and the night fare is 3 EUR. You can purchase your ticket from the bus driver. Tickets are valid for two hours, including transfers.

Tal Mixta Cave Parking
We parked our car on the side of the road for free. From there, we had to walk for 10 minutes, approximately 600 meters, to reach the cave. (We marked where we parked on the map). Along the way, there is a nice view of Ramla Beach. When we arrived, we entered the cave through some small stone steps.
We are glad we didn’t miss visiting Tal Mixta Cave, as we loved the view from there. When you take photos, be careful, and don’t go close to the edge!
Although it was crowded at the time of our visit, tourists quickly took some pictures and immediately went to the beach to relax. Ramla Bay, with its distinctive orange-red sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters, is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.
Ramla Bay to Tal Mixta Cave
There is a thin path leading up to the cave from Ramla Bay. When we were there in mid-May, it wasn’t that hot yet. But if you come in the summer months, wear a hat because there is no shade on the path. The path is slippery and gravelly, so wear closed shoes. It is a 15-20 minute hike from Ramla Bay to Tal Mixta Cave.
If you have time, visit the nearby Calypso Cave, which is also within walking distance.

There is no entrance fee, and it is open 24 hours a day.

Where to Stay in Gozo
There are 3 areas in Gozo where you can stay, and it is a good choice for first-time visitors.
If you are arriving without a car, we recommend Victoria (Rabat) as it offers affordable accommodations and is a good base for exploring the Island.
If you want to stay close to the beach, we recommend Xlendi and Marsalforn.
The closest village to Tal Mixta Cave is Nadur. This richly historic location offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

Tal Mixta Cave History
The word Mixta comes from the Maltese name ‘Mxett’, which refers to a wintering place. It is believed that people used the cave as a shelter for themselves and their livestock, and it is one of the last remaining troglodytic habitats. Nowadays, it is only visited for its picturesque coastline views.
