Abu Simbel is located in southern Egypt, about 20 km from the Sudan border. The road from to Abu Simbel is open between 5 AM and 5 PM. Previously, tourists had to travel in convoys. But this is no longer necessary, and you can also get there safely by taxi or private car. However, cars still pass through security checkpoints for the safety of tourists and locals.

Aswan to Abu Simbel by Flight
The easiest and fastest way to get to Abu Simbel is by plane. Only EgyptAir operates three daily flights (except Sundays) from Aswan International Airport (airport code ASW) to Abu Simbel Airport (airport code ABS).
The flight takes just 45 minutes, and plane tickets start from 70 USD (without luggage) per person for one way. In high season, flight tickets may be even more expensive.

The distance between Abu Simbel Airport and the temples is only 5 km, and the journey time by taxi or shuttle bus is about 10 minutes.
Aswan to Abu Simbel by Taxi, Private Car
The most expensive way to get to Abu Simbel is by taxi. The journey takes 3.5-4 hours, depending on traffic.
A taxi cost to Abu Simbel and back starts from 4000 EGP (130 USD), depending on the number of passengers, time of day, etc. If you are not traveling alone, the price is affordable.
