Best Lisbon Instagram Spots

We have put together our favorite Lisbon Instagram spots with descriptions, tips, and inspirational photos. But we are sure that you will easily find some hidden gems during your visit, as Lisbon is full of wonderful streets and charming corners.

1. Pink Street

Without a doubt, one of the best Instagram spots in Lisbon is Rua Nova do Carvalho, better known as Pink Street. Formerly the Red Light District, Pink Street was rebuilt in 2011 and has now become one of Lisbon’s top attractions.

Since it’s a popular spot in the city, arrive early in the morning when restaurants and nearby shops are still closed, and you can easily take some creative photos like we did. Afterwards, visit one of the cafes during the day and enjoy the fantastic atmosphere of the pedestrian street, or return in the evening and experience the vibrant nightlife.

TIP
Buy a Pastel de Nata (a famous Portuguese dessert) that will look perfect in your Instagram photos.

2. Rua Augusta Arch

Just a 10-minute walk from Pink Street, you will find Lisbon’s bustling main square, Praça do Comércio. Here, you can take fantastic photos of the beautiful arch of the Arco da Rua Augusta and the passing yellow trams.

Since this attraction is located in the heart of the city, if you want to avoid the crowds and take a good photo, be sure to visit it in the morning. Then enjoy a 360-degree view of the area from the Rua Augusta Arch. Tickets can be purchased HERE.

Use a wide-angle lens and get better pictures.

3. Monument to the Discoveries

Although we have been to many places around the world, this is still one of our favorite photos we have taken during our travels. So bring your drone and take some beautiful photos/videos.

You can easily reach the Monument to the Discoveries (Padrão dos Descobrimentos) by train and then combine your visit with other popular nearby attractions, such as the Belém Tower or the Jerónimos Monastery.

Did you know? The monument commemorates the 500th anniversary of the death of Henry the Navigator, who discovered the Azores, Madeira, and Cape Verde.

4. Elevador da Bica – One of the best Lisbon Instagram Spots

We took one of our best pictures at the Elevador da Bica funicular. Since cars also drive on these narrow streets and the tram usually runs every 15 minutes, we had to wait for the perfect Instagram shot, but it was worth it.

GPS coordinates: ( 38.709426, -9.146403 )

The 53E Bica funicular connects the R. S. Paulo and Lg. Calhariz, and the return tram ticket costs 4.20 EUR. After reaching the top, the funicular stops for about 5 minutes, and the tourists can take some creative photos.

Insider Knowledge
There are two funiculars. One is the typical yellow, like in Budapest, and the other is covered with graffiti, so if you skip the yellow Lisbon tram, you’ll have to wait 30 minutes.

5. Livraria Ler Devagar

Livraria Ler Devagar is one of the best Instagram spots in Lisbon and is free to visit. We loved exploring this unique bookstore. Ler Devagar, which means “Read Slowly,” is a great place to pick up some new books.

It is located in the LX Factory, where there are plenty of photogenic spots with cozy restaurants, colorful street art, trendy shops, and art galleries. A perfect place for shopping or relaxing.

6. Miradouro de Santa Luzia

Visit the Miradouro de Santa Luzia or Miradouro das Portas do Sol to see the magical sunset and take beautiful photos. Here you can enjoy the charming atmosphere and sometimes even live music from the locals.

Although both viewpoints are popular, if you plan to watch the sunset at Santa Luzia, arrive early to get the best spot. The place was very crowded when we were there, so we decided to watch the sunset at Portas do Sol, which was just a few steps away.

7. Pena Palace

Although it’s not technically in the city, as everyone takes a day trip to Sintra during their stay, we felt we had to add it to our list of the most Instagrammable places in Lisbon. We loved exploring Pena Palace. It was like we had stepped into a fairy tale, and every corner of the palace was super photogenic.

Get a Pena Palace entry ticket.

Sintra is only a 50-minute train ride from Lisbon, but plan to spend at least a full day there if you want to see the best sights. Besides the Pena Palace, we recommend a visit to the Quinta da Regaleira, the Monserrate Palace, and the Moorish Castle.

Book your day trip to Sintra through Viator or GetYourGuide.

8. Belém Tower

The Belém Tower offers beautiful photo opportunities from many angles, so it’s worth adding it to your list of the best Instagram spots in Lisbon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited attraction in the city. Although the tower is beautiful from the outside, it’s worth visiting.

Book your guided tour HERE.

It is open from October to April between 10 AM and 5:30 PM and from May to September between 10 AM and 6:30 PM. Every Monday is closed!

It’s easily accessible by train, tram 15, or bus, but we recommend arriving before opening hours. Then, sample the famous Portuguese dessert Pastel de Nata at Pastéis de Belém.

9. Lisbon Cathedral

The city’s oldest and largest church offers fantastic photo opportunities from the outside. But for the best experience, visit the cathedral and admire the stunning details inside. Lisbon Cathedral is just a 10-minute walk from the Santa Luzia viewpoint. The area is also home to many street vendors, cozy cafes, and restaurants.

Since it is frequently passed by the tram, it’s the perfect backdrop for your photo.
