St. Peter’s Pool
St. Peter’s Pool is a stunning natural pool located near the charming fishing village of Marsaxlokk. The crystal clear blue-green water of the natural swimming pool is ideal for snorkeling, swimming, and cliff jumping.
We visited it in the off-season, and there were few people. But in the peak season, we can’t even imagine how many people there would be at the pool.
We think this place is mostly visited by young people or tourists who make a short stop during a boat trip. If you want to relax, this is probably not the best place to go. If you have time and like to jump into the water, this place is worth visiting, but arrive early to enjoy it and avoid the crowds. However, it is not worth spending more than a few hours here.
St. Peter’s Pool Overview
What we didn’t like
- It’s a very popular place, so it’s incredibly crowded on weekends or during peak season
- There are no facilities (toilet, shower, changing room)
- It was quite stressful to get there by rental car because of the narrow streets
- There are many jellyfish in the water
- There is no sand, and the rocks are not very comfortable if you just come to sunbathe
- There are only a few shady places
We do not recommend it for families or the elderly.
What we liked
- It is free to visit
- You can even approach it on foot
- Great place for snorkeling
- There are many jumping points from which you can jump into the water
- If you don’t want to jump off the rocks, you can use the ladders to enter the water
- There is a bar near the parking lot where you can buy cold drinks, beer, and ice cream
Although we didn’t regret visiting St. Peter’s Pool, in our opinion, this place is overrated in Malta, and there are much better places without such crowds.

FAQ about St. Peter’s Pool
What should I bring?
Bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, a quick-drying towel, a swimsuit, snorkeling gear, water shoes, a power bank, and cash.
What should I wear?
As there are no changing rooms or toilets around the natural pool (not even at the nearby bar), we recommend wearing your swimsuit under your clothes. If you are walking from Marsaxlokk, wear a hat and sunglasses as there is no shade along the way.
What is the jumping height of St. Peter’s Pool?
The jumping height is about 3-5 meters, but there are places where it is only 1 meter. For those who are afraid to jump into the water, there are ladders that you can use to enter the water.
How to Get to St. Peter’s Pool
The best way to get to St. Peter’s Pool is by boat. If you are in Marsaxlokk, you can get there on foot, by car, or by water taxi, which costs 5 EUR each way. We went there by car. But drive carefully as the road is very narrow, and two cars cannot pass each other. If someone is driving towards you, you will probably have to reverse a lot.
We have a detailed post on how to get from Marsaxlokk to St. Peter’s Pool with all the information you need.
Once you arrive, you can reach this natural wonder by descending steep stone steps.
