The distance between the two cities is about 130 km, which is 2-3 hours, depending on traffic and mode of transport. You can’t get from Tirana to Berat by train, as Berat has no railway station.

Car Rental in Albania
The best way to get around Albania is by car, as you can easily reach the best places and hidden gems. We did our Albania Itinerary by rental car and enjoyed exploring the sights at our own pace. Once you arrive at Tirana International Airport, you can easily rent a car at the airport or pick up your pre-booked car.

The car rental costs will be different when you travel to Albania in high season (June to September) or low season and rent a car in advance or at the last minute. You will spend around 30-50 EUR daily for a standard car with full coverage.

We drove from the airport on the SH2 highway towards Durres and took the SH4 road to Berat. The roads were in good condition. Always wear your seat belt and obey the speed limit! The drive time is usually 2-2.5 hours, depending on traffic.
Tirana to Berat Day Trip

Berat by Minivan
One of the best ways to get to Berat is by air-conditioned minivan. The journey time takes 2-2.5 hours, depending on traffic. The minivan leaves only once a day, at 10 AM. A shuttle minivan from the airport to Hotel Osumi (Berat city center) starts from 36 EUR.

How to Get from Tirana to Berat by Taxi
One of the easiest and fastest ways to get to Berat is by taxi. The journey takes 2-2.5 hours, depending on traffic.
A taxi to Berat costs between 7000-8000 LEK (70-80 EUR). Uber is currently not available in Albania. But you can use taxi apps such as Speed Taxi or Merr Taxi.
Be sure you negotiate the price with the driver before you get in the taxi. Taxi drivers do not accept card payments, so you should bring local money (LEK) or EUR.
Tirana to Berat by Bus
The cheapest way to get to Berat is by bus. Buses depart from the Tirana Bus Terminal. The bus terminal is located outside the city center, about 15-20 minutes by taxi. The buses do not have numbers but have signs showing where they are going, such as Berat, Dhermi, Shkoder, and Saranda.
The journey time takes 2.5-3 hours, depending on traffic. We found traveling by bus in Albania easy and safe. The buses are air-conditioned and have comfortable seats and big luggage compartments.
Good to know
There is no direct bus service from the airport to Berat. First, you have to travel to Durres and then transfer to another bus.
Tirana to Berat Bus Schedule & Ticket Price
The bus ticket to Berat costs 500 LEK (5 EUR) per person. You can buy your bus ticket on the bus and pay only in cash (EUR or LEK). The direct buses run every 30 minutes from 05:40 to 17:30. Check the current bus timetable HERE.
Buses stop outside the city center, about 2 km away. You will find the Berat bus station here. Once you arrive, you can take a taxi (5-10 EUR) or bus (40 LEK) to the city center of Berat.
