Best Time to Visit Jaipur
The best time to visit Jaipur is from November to March when the weather is more pleasant during the day. This is the perfect time to explore the famous Pink City without the discomfort of extreme heat or humidity.
The busiest period in India is from October to March. In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, train tickets, and tours in advance!
We visited this unique temple at the end of March and had fantastic weather. As this is not a popular place, you don’t need to arrive early to avoid the crowds.
Jagat Shiromani Temple History
The temple was built by Queen Kanakwati, wife of King Man Singh I, in memory of their son Jagat Singh (who died young). The construction took nine years, between 1599 and 1608 AD. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu gods Meera Bai, Krishna, and Vishnu.
Different types of stone were used for the construction, such as white marble, red sandstone, and black stone. The stone surfaces are decorated with meticulously carved figures of gods, mythological scenes, and intricate patterns.
A flight of steps leads to the impressive entrance gate, which is adorned with two elephant statues. It is the only temple in the world that contains idols of Lord Krishna and Meera Bai.
There is no dress code, but you should wear respectful clothing when visiting the temple. Women must cover their shoulders and knees. Before entering the temple, you must take off your shoes.
How to Get to Jagat Shiromani Temple, Amer
The temple is located in Amer, about a 30-minute drive from the city center of Jaipur. It is only a 5-minute walk from Panna Meena ka Kund. You can get to the temple by taxi or private transfer.
Alternatively, you can hire a tuk-tuk driver for a whole day and customize your city tour. We have also been on such a tour, and we do not recommend it, because they will take you to shops that you probably won’t be interested in, but will force you to visit them.
As it is located on the way to Amber Fort, we recommend that you visit the temple first. We only met a few locals during our visit and loved exploring this peaceful place.
Then, you can easily combine your visit with the underrated Gaitor Ki Chhatriyan (Royal Gaitor), Amber Fort, and the beautiful Panna Meena ka Kund.
Jagat Shiromani Temple Opening Hours & Entry Fee
The temple is free to visit. We only had to pay 25 INR (0,30 USD) as we also took a video at the temple.
The monument and garden can be visited from sunrise to sunset.
TIP
In India, you can buy tickets for monuments on this official site.
