Driving time between Merida and Chichen Itza is usually 2 hours. Between Merida and Chichen Itza, the toll road costs 129 MXN (7.50 USD). They don’t accept credit cards or dollars, so make sure you bring enough Mexican pesos!

How to Get from Merida to Chichen Itza by Taxi, Private Transfer

One of the easiest and fastest ways to get to Chichen Itza is by taxi. The journey takes 1.5-2 hours, depending on traffic.

A taxi cost from Merida Airport (MID) to Chichen Itza starts from 1800 MXN (105 USD), depending on the number of passengers, time of day, etc. If you are not traveling alone, the price is affordable.

Before you get in the taxi, be sure to agree on a price with the driver. The taxi drivers do not accept card payments, so you should bring local money!

Merida to Chichen Itza by Ado Bus

Unfortunately, there are no ADO buses from Merida Airport to the Mayan Ruins. So you will first have to get to the city center of Merida and then take a bus to Chichen Itza.

The cheapest way to get to Chichen Itza is by bus. ADO is the largest and most popular bus company in Mexico. The Mexican ADO buses are safe, air-conditioned, comfortable, and cheap.

The travel time is approximately 2 hours, and the bus tickets start from 12 USD.

Buses depart three times a day, at 7:15 AM, 9:30 AM, and noon, from Merida ADO Tame Bus Terminal to the ADO bus station. On Sundays, an extra bus is available at 8:15 AM. Once you arrive at the ADO bus station, you can take a short walk or taxi ride to the entrance of Chichen Itza.

  1. nonsense. buses ORIENTE leave every half an hour from the ADO station. And there is collectivo leaving from Merida…

    1. Hi! Thanks for the information. But since we couldn’t find any trustworthy information about Colectivo, we didn’t mention it in the post. Can you give me some information about it? Where does the Colectivo leave from? How often does it run? How much does it cost? In addition, on the official website of the ADO bus, we still found that there are only 3 buses per day from Merida to Chichen Itza.
