How to Visit Na Muang Waterfall in Koh Samui
Na Muang Waterfall is one of the most popular attractions in Koh Samui, so don’t miss it. Although the waterfall is not as intense in the drier months, the natural swimming pools are still a good place for a refreshing dip on a hot day. Most Koh Samui tours include a visit to Na Muang Waterfalls.

Best Time to Visit Koh Samui
Thailand has a tropical climate with two seasons: dry and wet. The best time to visit Koh Samui is during the dry season, from December to March. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring the best attractions. In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, ferry tickets, and tours in advance!
The average annual temperature in Koh Samui is 28°C. We visited the waterfall in mid-April and had fantastic weather, but the waterfall was not intense. So we recommend planning your visit in the rainy months (September to November) or visiting after the rain.
How to Get to Na Muang Waterfall
The waterfall is located between the Lipa Noi and Lamai areas. You can easily get to the waterfall by scooter or car. There is a large parking lot, and the parking fee is 20 THB (0.60 USD).
We rented a scooter for 250 THB (7.5 USD) per day and drove there.
Alternatively, you can join an organized group or private tour that includes transport. During the tour, you can visit Wat Plai Laem, Wat Phra Yai (Big Buddha Temple), Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks, Lad Koh Viewpoint, Wat Khunaram (Mummified Monk), and Na Muang Waterfalls.
The tour price includes hotel pick-up and drop-off, an English-speaking guide, a bottle of water, entrance fees, and transportation by air-conditioned minivan.

Na Muang Waterfall 1
Nestled among the mountains of Koh Samui, Na Muang is a beautiful 18-meter-high waterfall surrounded by lush jungle. It is also called the “Purple Waterfall” because of the color of the rock walls behind it. The waterfall provides the perfect backdrop for photos and is well worth a visit if you are in the area.
We rented a scooter and went up the hill to see this waterfall. Once you arrive at the parking lot, you can easily walk to the waterfall in about 5 minutes. When we visited, entry was free.
Since we arrived early in the morning, we only had to share the waterfall with two other tourists and had a fantastic experience. But this is a popular place, so we recommend arriving as early as possible.

There are many slippery rocks around the waterfall, so be careful!
When we visited in April, the waterfall was very weak, so it was not worth the visit. But after rain or during the wet months, when the water is powerful, you will have a much better view. We recommend you spend some relaxing hours here and then continue exploring the attractions of Koh Samui.
There are also a few vendors where you can buy food and drinks.
Na Muang Waterfall 2
Na Muang Waterfall has two stunningly beautiful waterfalls. The lower waterfall falls into a beautiful natural pool and is easily accessible for families. The upper waterfall can be reached with a 30-minute hike through the jungle. The waterfall falling from a height of 80 meters offers a unique sight.
From the lower parking lot, go uphill and then turn left at the Waterfall 2 sign. You will reach the viewpoint in about 30 minutes. The trail is steep, and some parts are slippery, so wear suitable shoes.
Alternatively, you can park in the upper car park for 30 THB (1 USD). The parking fee includes a small bottle of water. You can reach the waterfall in about 10-15 minutes. Namuang Safari Park offers elephant rides to the waterfall, but please don’t ride elephants!
The entrance fee is 50 Baht (1.50 USD) per person. But during the shoulder season, it is usually free to visit.
The most beautiful viewpoint is at the top, from where you can enjoy a magical view or take some Instagram photos from the natural pool. Don’t hike to Na Muang Waterfall 2 Viewpoint in the rain, as the trail can be dangerous and slippery. Fatal accidents have happened at the upper waterfall, so go there at your own risk! We didn’t have enough time to visit it, so we skipped it.

The official opening hours are from 9 AM to 5 PM, and there is no admission fee.
