Where is the Abandoned Water Park?
The Hue Abandoned Water Park, also known as Ho Thuy Tien Lake, is located 8 km from Hue’s city center in Vietnam.
Abandoned Water Park History
The park was officially opened to the public in 2004, costing over 3 million USD. The plan was to create a family water park with an amusement park, water slides, swimming pools, a water show, and an aquarium. But unfortunately, it closed in 2006, just two years after opening. The exact reasons for the closing remain a mystery. Some locals say the park is cursed. The Vietnamese government declared the park unsafe and officially closed it. The Abandoned Water Park is still visited by tourists.
How to Get to Abandoned Water Park, Hue
To get to Thuy Tien Lake, you first need to get to Hue, Vietnam. Most people come to Hue from Hanoi, Da Nang, or Hoi An.

Good to know
There are no trains between Hoi An and Hue. Because Hoi An does not have its own railway station.
The easiest way to get to Hue is from Da Nang, as the distance between the two cities is only 90 km, and the journey takes 2-3 hours. You can reach Hue by train, bus, taxi, or motorbike.

You can get from Hue city center to the Abandoned Water Park in about 15 minutes by taxi or scooter. We recommend using Maps.me or Google Maps. Leave your scooter nearby, but not at the official entrance, and go to the site. Alternatively, you can use your motorbike to drive around in the park.
Parking is usually free, but if the guards ask for money, do not pay more than 10.000 VND (0.40 USD).
How to Visit Hue Abandoned Water Park
The best way to get to the Abandoned Water Park is to rent a scooter and drive yourself. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or Grab (like Uber). Motorbike rental prices range between 100.000 and 150.000 VND (4-6 USD) per day.
The security guards at the main entrance may not let you in. You can offer the guards a few dollars for entry or enter through an unofficial entrance.
TIP
If the guards do not allow you to enter, you can get in near the Nano Eco-Hostel.
If you enter the park without paying, be careful because guards usually check the park area on motorbikes.
The park is built around a small lake. The impressive giant dragon is the main attraction, which can be reached from three sides and offers incredible photo opportunities. There is usually someone selling refreshments near the dragon. To get the dragon’s mouth, you have to pass through the ruins of old aquariums and climb the stairs. Wear closed shoes, as there is a lot of litter, broken glass, and debris.
It will probably feel creepy and exciting to explore this Abandoned Water Park. However, you must respect the site and not litter or damage the buildings. Only visit the Dragon Water Park in Hue at your own risk! There are probably no more crocodiles in the park, but be careful when visiting. Many buildings are now unstable, covered in moss and graffiti.

Best Time to Visit Hue
Hue has a tropical monsoon climate, and the average temperature is 26°C all year round. However, the best time to visit Hue is from February to April, when temperatures are pleasant for sightseeing, and there is little rain.
The rainy season runs from September to December. The hottest months are May and June.

There are no official opening hours. To visit the park, you will have to pay 10.000-20.000 VND (0.40-0.80 USD) per person. Don’t pay more than 50.000 VND (2 USD).
