Where is Red Coral Waterfall?

It is located in North Bali, Indonesia, about a 2-hour drive from Ubud and a short scooter ride from Munduk Village.

When is the Best Time to Visit Red Coral Waterfall, Bali?

Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring the best attractions.

Bali has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather, and the average temperature is around 27°C all year round. The rainy season runs from November to March.

During the rainy season or after heavy rains, the waterfall is a magnificent sight as it is powerful and intense. Before visiting the Munduk area, check the weather forecast, as the weather in the highlands of North Bali is often unpredictable.

There is only a small area in front of the waterfall, and most tourist groups arrive at the same time, so the experience can be unpleasant due to the crowds. We were lucky because we had the waterfall to ourselves for about 15 minutes. So we recommend arriving super early and taking some beautiful photos.

How to Get to Red Coral Waterfall

Although most accommodation in the area offers guided tours to the waterfall, you can easily visit it independently by renting a scooter. Alternatively, you can get there with a private driver.

Rent a private car with a driver to easily explore Bali’s attractions through Viator or GetYourGuide.

We rented a scooter and explored Ubud and Munduk at our own pace. Scooter rental starts from 80,000 IDR (5 USD) per day. If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount. Traffic in Bali is chaotic, so always wear a helmet and don’t drive at night!

There is a small parking lot next to the main road where you can leave your motorbike or car. The parking fee during our visit was 2,000 IDR for a motorbike.

TIP
You can visit Red Coral Waterfall on its own or as part of the Munduk Four Waterfalls trek.

Red Coral Waterfall Opening Hours

The official opening hours are from 7 AM to 6 PM, but technically, the waterfall is open 24 hours a day.

Red Coral Waterfall Entrance Fee

The entrance fee to Red Coral Waterfall is 45,000 IDR (about 3 USD) for foreigners and 15,000 IDR for locals. Discounted tickets are available for children.

When we visited this waterfall, the entrance fee was only 20,000 IDR per person. Unfortunately, it is now the most expensive waterfall compared to other waterfalls within walking distance.

TIP
Bring enough local money with you, as you can only pay the entrance fee in cash.

Red Coral Waterfall Trail

Red Coral Waterfall is often called Munduk Waterfall, but don’t confuse the two! It is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the area and one of the most accessible.

The trail is well-signposted, just follow the signs to the waterfall from the parking lot. You can easily walk to the waterfall in about 10-15 minutes. Since this is an easy trek and the trail is well-maintained and mostly paved, it is suitable for almost all ages.

During the rainy season or after heavy rains, the trail can be very slippery and muddy, so we do not recommend visiting during this period.

After the ticket office, cross the small bamboo bridge to reach the waterfall. This waterfall is not suitable for swimming as the water is too shallow.

The energy of the waterfall is enormous, sending spray several meters away. Therefore, protect your camera lens with a polarized filter and dry the lens with a special lens cleaner.

You can easily combine your visit to Red Coral Waterfall with other nearby waterfalls, such as Labuhan Kebo Waterfall, Belong Waterfall, Melanting Waterfall, and Golden Valley Waterfall.

We loved exploring this waterfall, but since the entrance fee has become more expensive since our last visit, we think the other waterfalls are better value for money.
