How to Get to Jodipan Rainbow Village, Malang

To get to Jodipan Village, you first need to get to Java Island, Indonesia. The plane is the most comfortable and fastest way to get to Java!

Java has several airports. There are many international flights from Singapore or Kuala Lumpur and domestic flights from other parts of Indonesia, such as Jakarta and Bali.

Malang has a small airport with domestic flights only, the Abdul Rachman Saleh Airport (airport code MLG).
The flight from Jakarta to Malang takes just 1.5 hours. After arrival, you can easily visit the colorful village of Jodipan in Malang.

The nearest major city to Malang is Surabaya, which is easily accessible by flight or train. Surabaya has an International Airport, the Surabaya Juanda International Airport (airport code SUB).

From Bali, you can fly to Surabaya from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (airport code DPS).

The flight takes just 1 hour, and plane tickets start from 30 USD (without luggage) per person for one way.

How to Visit Jodipan Village in Malang

Most people arrive in Malang from Probolinggo or Surabaya and spend a few days in the city to visit the Colorful Village, Tumpak Sewu Waterfall, and Mount Bromo.

You can easily get to Malang by train or private driver. Buy your train tickets here. The journey from Surabaya City and Probolinggo to Malang takes 1.5-2 hours, depending on traffic.

The Jodipan Village is just a 15-20 minute walk from Malang train station.

As the village of Jodipan is not so crowded, you can visit at any time of day and explore the streets, find the best photo spots, and talk with locals. You can support the locals by buying snacks or souvenirs.

A few years ago, this riverside village in Malang was a slum on the verge of eviction because of the living conditions. A group of students at the University of Malang then had the creative idea to paint the houses in color.

The plan proved successful, as a local paint distributor supported the project, and some painters and local artists joined to boost tourism in the area.

Malang Blue Village
