We actually visited Munduk twice. The first time we went there, the weather was terrible and we couldn’t visit any of the waterfalls due to heavy rains. But the second time, we had the opportunity to visit several incredible waterfalls, temples, and some hidden gems. So let’s explore the best things to do in Munduk.
1. Stay at Munduk Moding Plantation
This is undoubtedly one of the best and most popular hotels in Munduk, Bali. With its stunning infinity pool, magnificent views, and magical sunsets, Munduk Moding Plantation Nature Resort is the perfect place for a romantic getaway.
Explore a variety of rooms and luxury suites that offer a peaceful retreat in the middle of the lush jungle and breathtaking views of coffee plantations.
The resort also offers a day pass, allowing you to experience a harmonious blend of modern comfort and natural beauty.
2. Ulun Danu Beratan Temple
If you’re wondering what to do in Munduk Bali, don’t miss visiting the iconic “Floating Bali Temple”. The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple, also known as Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, is a beautiful Hindu water temple on the shores of Lake Beratan, just a 30-minute drive from the village.
We loved the peaceful atmosphere and the fantastic photo opportunities. So we recommend planning your visit for early morning to avoid the crowds and enjoy the beautiful light. For the best experience, take a boat trip on the lake.
The temple is open to visitors every day from 7 AM to 7 PM. The Ulun Danu Beratan Temple entrance fee is 75,000 IDR (4,50 USD) for foreigners.

You can easily combine your visit with the stunning Bali Botanical Garden and Handara Gate, which are just a few minutes’ drive away.
3. Explore the Best Waterfalls in Munduk
One of the fun things to do in Munduk is to visit the stunning waterfalls. Each waterfall is unique and offers fantastic photo opportunities. It was the perfect base for exploring the waterfalls. We first stayed at Sekumpul BnB, where we got a discounted ticket to Sekumpul Waterfall. We then stayed at Menir Villas, close to the waterfalls.
Here are our favorite waterfalls that you shouldn’t miss:
- Sekumpul Waterfall: The tallest waterfall in Bali. You can admire the spectacular scenery from the viewing platform or take an exciting hike to the waterfall.
- Banyumala Twin Waterfall: The natural pool is surrounded by large rocks and lush green vegetation, making it the perfect place to take some unforgettable photos and a refreshing dip.
- Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall: This waterfall is still a hidden gem, where you can visit four different waterfalls for the price of one.

4. Wanagiri Hidden Hill
If you’re looking for the best Instagram-worthy spots, head to Wanagiri Hidden Hill Bali. This place offers the most beautiful view in Munduk, near Buyan Lake.
You can enjoy stunning views and take gorgeous photos of yourself or with your partner in the various swings, nests, and boats. Each photo spot is unique, where you can take iconic Bali photos. As this is a popular spot, try to arrive early to avoid crowds and long lines.
The entrance fee to Wanagiri Hidden Hill is 100,000 IDR (6 USD) per person. At the attraction, locals will help you take photos for a small donation.
5. Handara Gate
Although there are many gates in Bali, this is one of the most photographed places. The line can be insanely long during the day, so it’s worth arriving very early to avoid the queue.
The iconic Balinese-style stone gate is just a 30-minute scooter ride from Munduk. When we first visited Munduk, we also visited Handara Gate, and back then, it wasn’t as popular as it is today. But this attraction should definitely be on your bucket list if you’re visiting Bali for the first time.

6. Munduk Four Waterfalls Trek
The Four Waterfalls tour is an incredible experience where you can adventure in nature, chase waterfalls, and eat delicious local food. This was one of our favorite things to do in Munduk, and we’re glad we didn’t miss these waterfalls.
The waterfalls are so close to each other that the whole group is often called Munduk Waterfalls. Most people only visit Red Coral Waterfall and do not do the Four Falls trek. But don’t miss Labuhan Kebo Waterfall, which is the most unique and beautiful of all.

7. Tamblingan Lake Temple
Looking for more top things to do in Munduk? Tamblingan Lake’s calm atmosphere and clear waters attract visitors, but it’s not as crowded as other nearby attractions. It is also called the Twin Lakes because it is adjacent to Buyan Lake. This place is perfect for nature lovers and photography enthusiasts.
At Tamblingan Lake, you can rent a canoe, enjoy breathtaking views, and take unique photos.
During the rainy season, when the water level is high, the temple looks like it is floating on the lake. When the water is low, you can easily walk to the temple, which makes the experience even more fantastic.

How to Get to Munduk, Bali
Munduk is a small mountain village in North Bali, about a 2-2.5 hour drive from Ubud and Canggu and 50 minutes from Lovina Beach.
The best way to get there is to rent a scooter or hire a private driver. Alternatively, you can join an organized shared or private tour that includes transportation.

We rented a motorbike in Ubud and went to Munduk, then explored the area and nearby attractions at our own pace. Scooter rental starts from 80,000 IDR (5 USD) per day. If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount. Always wear a helmet when riding a motorbike, and avoid driving at night.

Best Time to Visit Munduk, North Bali
Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. The best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for visiting the must-see attractions and discovering some hidden gems.
Bali has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather, and the average temperature is around 27°C all year round. The rainy season runs from November to March. Access to the waterfalls can be more difficult during the rainy season when the trails are muddy and slippery.
We last visited Munduk in mid-May, and the weather was great for exploring the area’s attractions. It’s good to know that Munduk’s weather is much colder (especially early in the morning) than other parts of Bali, so don’t forget to take warm clothes.
Before visiting this area, check the weather forecast, as the weather in the highlands of North Bali is often unpredictable.
How many Days do you Need in Munduk, Bali?
Most people take a day trip and later regret it when they realize they didn’t have enough time to explore the best things to do in Munduk. So we highly recommend spending at least 2-3 days there.
If you have more time, we recommend visiting the Jatiluwih rice terraces or a hike to Mount Batur at sunrise.
