How to Visit Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall in Bali

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is still a hidden gem in Bali, where you can visit four different waterfalls for the price of one. Perfect for those looking for a unique place or a quiet and peaceful getaway in Bali. We were lucky because we had these waterfalls all to ourselves.

Where is Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall?

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls are located in North Bali, Indonesia, about a 2-hour drive from Ubud and 30 minutes from Munduk.

When is the Best Time to Visit Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall?

Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. The best time to visit Bali is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring the best attractions.

Bali has a tropical climate, with hot and humid weather, and the average temperature is around 27°C all year round.

The rainy season runs from November to March. The first waterfall can only be seen during and immediately after the rainy season. We visited these stunning waterfalls in May, and luckily, the first waterfall was visible.

Before visiting this area, check the weather forecast, as the weather in the highlands of North Bali is often unpredictable. You don’t have to arrive early in the morning to avoid the crowds, as this place is not yet very popular with tourists.

How to Get to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall & Parking

The best way to visit the waterfall is to rent a scooter or hire a private driver. Alternatively, you can join an organized shared or private tour that includes transportation.

We rented a scooter and explored Ubud and Munduk at our own pace. Scooter rental starts from 80,000 IDR (5 USD) per day. If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount. Traffic in Bali is chaotic, so always wear a helmet and don’t drive at night!

The parking fee during our visit was 2,000 IDR for a motorbike.

Once you arrive, buy your entrance ticket and trek to the waterfalls. You don’t need a local guide, as you can visit the waterfalls on your own.

Good to know
You cannot get to the waterfalls on your own motorbike. But you can pay for a local motorbike transport service.

Air Terjun Banyu Wana Amertha is open daily from 8 AM to 5 PM.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall Entrance Fee

The entrance fee to Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall is 40,000 IDR (about 2.50 USD) per person, which gives access to all 4 waterfalls.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfalls Trek

We arrived at Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall in the morning, and there was no one there except us. At the entrance, you can pay for a motorbike taxi, and they will take you to the falls, and you don’t have to trek. A motorbike taxi costs 30,000 IDR one way and 50,000 IDR round trip. But we don’t think it’s worth the price, as the waterfalls aren’t far away, and it was a fantastic experience to walk in the peaceful forest.

The first two waterfalls are next to each other, and you only have to walk 700 meters from the entrance. Although the stone path is a bit steep, it is well-maintained, and it only takes 20 minutes to walk to the falls.

At the end of the descent (at the signpost), the trail splits in two directions: the left one leads to the nearest waterfalls, and the right one to the third and fourth waterfalls further away. The trail is well-marked, and there are steps leading down to the waterfalls.

At the first waterfall, you can even walk behind the waterfall and refresh yourself in the cold water, which is a great experience in humid and hot weather.

The second waterfall (Bhuana Sari) was our favorite because it was a great place to take pictures.

The green vegetation covering the rock walls of the waterfall and the numerous cascades provide an incredible sight. It reminded us a lot of the Benang Kelambu Waterfall in Lombok.

There are two toilets, one at the entrance and one near the waterfalls.

Some people only trek to the first two waterfalls, but we think all four are worth a visit. The third waterfall is quickly accessible and also offers fantastic photo opportunities, but you can’t swim here.

There are a few stalls along the way where you can buy snacks and refreshing drinks.

Good to know
Access to the waterfalls can be more difficult in the rainy season when the path is muddy and slippery.

The last one (Banyu Wana Amertha, also known as Spray Waterfall) is the highest and largest of the four, located in a peaceful and tranquil setting.

This waterfall has a huge swimming area, making it ideal for a refreshing dip.

The furthest waterfall is about 500 meters from the first two and is easily accessible on foot. The steep trail and stairs make the return trip a bit exhausting, but it’s worth it.

Plan to spend at least 2 hours at the waterfalls.

After you’ve spent enough time here, you can easily combine your visit with other great nearby attractions, such as Gitgit Waterfall, Wanagiri Hidden Hill, Banyumala Twin Waterfalls, and Buyan & Tamblingan Lake.
