When is the Best Time to Visit Lombok Beaches?

Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. Lombok is a popular destination all year round. But the best time to visit Lombok beaches is during the dry season, from May to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and exploring Lombok Island. August is the driest month.

Lombok has a tropical climate with high humidity, and the average temperature is 28°C all year round.

The busiest time to visit Lombok is between July and August. In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, ferry tickets, and tours in advance.

Planning your first trip to Lombok Island? Check out our guide to find the best way to get from Bali to Lombok.

It’s good to know that during the rainy season (from November to April) or when the sea conditions are bad, the boat schedules can change and be delayed a lot, so plan your trip to Lombok!

How to Get to the Beaches in Lombok

Wondering how to visit the best beaches in Lombok? It’s easy to get around Lombok.

Unlike Nusa Penida, Lombok has good paved roads.

The best ways to get around Lombok are to rent a scooter or hire a private driver. We rented a motorbike and explored the beaches of Lombok at our own pace. Always wear a helmet and avoid driving at night!

Scooter rental starts from 65,000 IDR (4 USD) per day, but we don’t recommend paying more than 85,000 IDR (5 USD). If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount!

Best Beaches in Lombok

1. Tanjung Aan Beach

Are you looking for less crowded beaches in Lombok? One of the hidden gems is Pantai Tanjung Aan, which most people skip during their visit. It is located about a 15-minute scooter ride from Kuta, near Bukit Merese Hill.

The beach is about 2 km long, with crystal clear waters and pristine white sand. You can easily spend a relaxing day here swimming, surfing, and lounging on the sunbeds.

There is no entrance fee, and parking is free!

In fact, it was our favorite beach in Kuta Lombok, and we visited it twice.

2. Mawi Beach

Are you a surf lover? Pantai Mawi is one of the best surfing beaches in Lombok, perfect for intermediate and advanced surfers.

You can reach Mawi Beach from Kuta Lombok in about 45-60 minutes by motorbike. When you turn off the main road, the road conditions will be bad (the path is unpaved and very bumpy).

The parking fee is 10,000 IDR (0,60 USD).

Mawi Beach is located near Pantai Semeti and Telawas Beach, so plan to take extra time to explore the beaches.

Good to know
Mawi Beach is not recommended for swimming due to the large waves.

One of the most beautiful beaches in Lombok is Mawun Beach (Pantai Mawun). Its untouched white sands, breathtaking scenery, and crystal clear turquoise waters make it the perfect place for beach lovers. If you have a drone, bring it with you because the views from above are stunningly beautiful.

Mawun Beach is just a 20-minute drive from Kuta Lombok, and you can combine your visit with Tampah Beach and Lancing Beach, which are just a short drive away.

The beach is free to visit, and the parking fee is only 10,000 IDR.

6. Nipah Beach

One of the best free beaches in Lombok is Nipah Beach, located in Senggigi. It is a clean sandy beach with peaceful shores where you can enjoy the tropical sun, kayak, or snorkel.

During our visit, we were lucky as there were no tourists and only a few locals around the beach.

It is just a 15-minute drive from Senggigi.

When you arrive, it’s just a few minutes walk from the parking lot to this breathtaking stretch of beach. Spend a few relaxing hours on the beach, swimming, snorkeling, and enjoying the beautiful sunset.

7. Pink Beach, Lombok

It is a unique beach that is definitely worth adding to your list of the best beaches in Lombok. Unfortunately, we didn’t have enough time to visit, so don’t make the same mistake and head to Pink Beach.

It is about a 1.5-2 hour drive from Kuta, but the best way to reach Pink Beach is to take a day trip. On the guided tour, you can visit Pink Beach 1 and 2, snorkel and swim at Gili Petelu, see Pulau Pasir (sandbar), and enjoy the panoramic views at Tanjung Ringgit.

Book your Lombok Pink Beach tour via Viator or GetYourGuide.

8. Seger Beach

Seger Beach is a small beach, just a 15-minute drive from Kuta. This popular surf spot features both left and right-hand waves. Even if you’re not a surfer, it’s still worth a visit, especially at sunset. You can enjoy the stunning scenery and the tranquil atmosphere.

The parking fee is 10,000 IDR (0,60 USD).

TIP
For the best views, visit Bukit Seger Hill, which is located across the bamboo bridge.

9. Kuta Beach Lombok

Kuta Beach is the most popular beach in Lombok. But in our opinion, it’s very overrated, and you can find much better beaches on the island. Although it’s still worth a short visit.

On our visit, the beach was very littered, so we wouldn’t recommend swimming here.

Kuta Beach is easily accessible, just a 15-30 minute walk or a short drive. Then, you can easily walk to the beautiful Mandalika Beach and take photos of the colorful boats and the Mandalika sign.

The parking fee is 10,000 IDR (0,60 USD).

Good to know

10. Gili Islands

If you are looking for more beaches in Lombok, we recommend a trip to the Gili Islands, where you will find the most tropical beaches.

The Gili Islands consist of three small islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air) located off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. These islands are perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts.

Planning your first trip to the Gili Islands? Check out our guide to find out where to stay in the Gili Islands.

In our opinion, each Gili island is unique and well worth a visit. It only depends on your preferences which island is ideal for you. Our favorite was Gili Air, where the most stunning beaches of Pelangi and Gili Lumbung offered great photo opportunities.

Book your Gili Islands snorkeling boat trip via GetYourGuide or Viator.
