Where is Mawun Beach?
Located in the south of Lombok Island in Indonesia, just a 20-minute scooter ride from Kuta.
How to Get to Mawun Beach & Parking
The best way to get to the beach is to rent a scooter or hire a private driver. We rented a motorbike and explored the nearby beaches at our own pace.
Scooter rental starts from 65,000 IDR (4 USD) per day, but we don’t recommend paying more than 85,000 IDR (5 USD). If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount!
When we visited Mawun Beach, the entrance fee was just 5,000 IDR per person, and parking was free. There was a manual barrier gate with some locals where we could pay cash on arrival. But we heard that now parking is 10,000 IDR (0,60 USD) per motorbike.
TIP
If you’re driving from Kuta, the Bangkang Cave (Bat Cave) is on the way and worth a visit (unless you are afraid of bats).

Best Time to Visit Lombok
Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. Lombok is a popular destination all year round. However, the best time to visit Lombok is during the dry season, which runs from May to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring Lombok’s attractions.
Lombok Island has a tropical climate with high humidity, and the average temperature is 28°C all year round. The rainy season runs from November to April.
The busiest time to visit Lombok is between July and August. In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, ferry tickets, and tours in advance!

Mawun Beach
Mawun Beach is a long white sandy beach with clear turquoise water and beautiful views of the surrounding green hills. It is a less busy beach with calm waves. We were lucky when we visited in May as there were no tourists on the beach, only locals.
Spend a few relaxing hours at Pantai Mawun, swimming, relaxing on the sun loungers, and strolling along the coast. There are some great warungs where you can eat delicious local food.
Good to know
During the monsoon season, or when the waves are high, a lot of trash can wash ashore. Fortunately, the beach was clean when we visited.
You can rent two sunbeds with an umbrella for 100,000 IDR, but try to bargain. You will probably get a discount if you order food or coconuts from the warung.
Mawun Beach is not the surf spot you are looking for, this beach is more recommended for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing.
Many children came to us to try to sell us bracelets. Unfortunately, this was a bit annoying because we came to the beach to relax and unwind, and these children often bothered us. We think the beach is still worth a visit and perfect for those looking for a less crowded beach in Kuta.
