How to Get to Lombok

Lombok is an island located in West Nusa Tenggara province, Indonesia. Most people arrive from the Gili Islands or Bali and start their 5-day Lombok Itinerary.

Getting to Lombok may seem difficult, but depending on your time and budget, there are several ways to get there. You can easily get to Lombok from Bali by fast boat, slow ferry, or plane.

The fast ferry or plane is the most comfortable and quickest way to get from Bali to Lombok.

We have a detailed post on how to get to Lombok with all the information you need.

Best Time to Visit Lombok

Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season.

Lombok is a popular destination all year round! But the best time to visit Lombok is during the dry season, from May to October.

August is the driest month! The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring Lombok Island.

Lombok has a tropical climate with high humidity, and the average temperature is 28°C all year round.

The busiest time to visit Lombok is between July and August. We did this 5-day Lombok Itinerary in May.

It’s good to know that during the rainy season (from November to April) or when the sea conditions are bad, the boat schedules can change and be delayed a lot, so plan your trip to Lombok!

TIP
In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, ferry tickets, and tours in advance!

Lombok Itinerary for 5 Days

Day 1: Arrive in Senggigi, Lombok

Welcome to Lombok! We hope you had a great flight or ferry journey and are ready to explore Lombok.

Senggigi is a coastal town located on the west coast of Lombok Island. It is a popular beach destination in Indonesia with beautiful untouched sandy beaches, palm trees, and crystal clear turquoise waters.

Buy an eSIM and data package for Indonesia.

Senggigi is the perfect place to start your 5-day Lombok Itinerary. Depending on when you arrive in Senggigi, you can choose to start exploring or relax at one of the beach resorts.

Senggigi has a wide range of beach resorts available for all budgets. By the pools, you can chill out, enjoy sunbathing, and drink delicious cocktails or cold coconuts at the beach clubs.

We stayed at Holiday Resort Lombok and loved it.

How to Get to Senggigi from the Gili Islands

From the Gili Islands, boats run regularly to Lombok.

The journey takes approximately 1 hour from Gili Trawangan to Bangsal Port, and boat tickets start from 10 USD per person.

We traveled by boat from Gili Air to Senggigi, and the journey took 20 minutes to Bangsal Harbour. The boat ticket starts from 6 USD per person, which includes hotel shuttle service in Senggigi.

The distance between Senggigi and Bangsal Port is 35 minutes.

You can easily buy boat tickets at any port, but we recommend booking online with 12Go!

Good to know
The boats don’t usually leave at the exact departure time, as they leave when they are full, so you should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure!

How to Get to Senggigi from Bali

Most people come to Senggigi from the Gili Islands or Bali.

Are you planning your first trip to the Gili Islands? Check out our guide to find the best way to get from Bali to the Gili Islands.

By plane

Unfortunately, there is no airport in Senggigi. The nearest airport is in Lombok, the Lombok International Airport (airport code LOP).

Although Kuta Lombok is closer to the airport than Senggigi, if you want to make the most of your 5-day Lombok Itinerary, we recommend skipping Kuta and going directly to Senggigi.

You can fly from Bali, the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport (airport code DPS), to Lombok and then take a taxi, bus, or private transfer to Senggigi.

The distance between Lombok Airport and Senggigi is 50 km, and the travel time is approximately 1.5 hours.

The flight takes just 40 minutes, and tickets start from 65 USD (without luggage) per person for one way.

TIP
Use Skyscanner to find cheap flights to Lombok, Indonesia.

By ferry

From Padang Bai Harbour, you can reach Senggigi Port in just 1.5 hours with a fast ferry.

Only Eka Jaya offers ferries from Padang Bai (Bali) to Senggigi Harbour (Lombok) once a day at 10:30 AM.

The Eka Jaya ferry ticket costs 550,000 IDR (36,5 USD) per person.

TIP
If you choose this option, book your boat tickets in advance, as they sell out fast!

Day 2: Motorbike Around the Senggigi Coastline

Good morning! It’s time to continue your 5-day Lombok Itinerary!

One of the best things to do in Senggigi is to rent a scooter and discover the coastline and beaches on your own. This is the best way to find hidden gems, the best restaurants, or meet the locals.

Especially around Senggigi, you will love the picturesque scenery and incredible views while driving.

As there are many beautiful photo spots along the way, allow more time to get from one place to another! Don’t miss the beautiful view at the Senggigi View sign, just a 5-minute drive from Senggigi Beach.

In Senggigi, two beaches you should not miss: Nipah Beach and Pandanan Beach. Trust us, you will not be disappointed by their beauty.

We’ve put together a list of the most beautiful beaches in Lombok.

5 Day Lombok Itinerary

Scooter rental starts from 65,000 IDR (4,30 USD) per day, but we don’t recommend paying more than 75,000 IDR (5 USD). We rented a motorbike and explored Senggigi at our own pace.

Important note
You can change the second day of the 5-day Lombok Itinerary and take a private snorkeling tour to the Gili Islands instead of visiting the beaches of Senggigi.

The Gili Islands consist of three small islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air) located off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia. You can boat tour around the islands, snorkel with turtles, and see the underwater sculptures of Gili Meno.

If you have limited time in Lombok, you can easily take a day tour from Senggigi to the Gili Islands and explore the most popular snorkel spots. We recommend booking through Viator.

Day 3: Day Trip to Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfall

Indonesia is home to many magical waterfalls, which makes Lombok one of the best destinations for chasing waterfalls. Are you ready for one of the highlights of your 5-day Lombok Itinerary?

Benang Kelambu is one of the best waterfalls in Lombok and is not to be missed. A magnificent wall of vines with cascades is one of the most beautiful scenery we have seen in Indonesia.

The best way to visit Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall is to join a day trip from Senggigi.

Book your waterfall tour through Viator.

Alternatively, you can get there by renting a motorbike or hiring a driver. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive from Senggigi to Benang Stokel & Benang Kelambu Waterfall.

Once you arrive, buy your entrance ticket and visit the waterfall. You can get to Benang Kelambu Waterfall by hiking or taking a local motorbike taxi.

Day 4: Travel to Senaru and Visit Two Waterfalls

Good morning! It’s time to continue your 5-day Lombok Itinerary.

Check out from your accommodation, have breakfast, and travel by scooter or private transfer to Senaru.

The distance between Senggigi and Senaru is 2 hours, depending on traffic.

Senaru is famous for its beautiful hiking trails, stunning waterfalls, and lush rice terraces. It is a small village and is the gateway to Mount Rinjani for hikers.

Good to know
Senaru is the best base for visiting the waterfalls. But you can take a day trip from Senggigi, Mataram, or Sembalun. Book your waterfall tour here.

Getting around in Lombok Itinerary

Sendang Gile Waterfall

Are you looking for the best things to do in Senaru? As the journey time from Senggigi to Senaru is short, after arrival, you can visit the Senaru traditional village and explore some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Lombok.

Once you arrive at the waterfall, buy your entrance ticket and start your hike on the marked trail. You can walk down the concrete steps from the entrance to the Sendang Gile Waterfall.

Sendang Gile is a beautiful 30-meter-high two-tiered waterfall that takes only 10-15 minutes to reach.

There are a few benches around the waterfall, with some local vendors, so you can easily spend 1-2 hours relaxing.

Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Tiu Kelep is one of the most famous waterfalls in Indonesia, so don’t miss it on your 5-day Lombok Itinerary.

From Sendang Gile Waterfall, head back towards the entrance and turn left at the sign for Tiu Kelep Waterfall.

The first part of the hike is easy, with steps and then crossing a bridge. After that, the waterfall hike becomes more exciting, leading through a lush tropical jungle, muddy/dirt trails, and shallow rivers.

However, the path is not well-marked, so follow the trail along the river until you reach the waterfall.

From Sendang Gile Waterfall, it takes about 40-50 minutes to reach Tiu Kelep Waterfall. We recommend booking your epic waterfall tour via Viator.

Day 5: Mount Rinjani Tour

Are you looking for an unforgettable adventure on your 5-day Lombok Itinerary? Mount Rinjani is the most popular and challenging hike in Lombok.

At 3726 meters, Mount Rinjani is the second-highest peak in Indonesia, where you can do an epic crater rim hike.

Depending on your time, fitness level, and budget, you can choose a 1-night or multi-day Mount Rinjani hike.

The most popular option if you’re short on time is a 2-day, 1-night trek, but if you want to get the most out of your experience, we recommend booking a 3-day, 2-night hike.

The tour price includes meals and drinks, a trekking guide, a porter, and camping equipment. We recommend booking your trek online through GetYourGuide.

The pick-up time is usually in the early morning. You can start your epic trek after paying the entrance fee and registering.

Mount Rinjani National Park entrance fee is 150,000 IDR (10 USD) /day/person.

More about Lombok → Things to Do in Kuta

We do not recommend the difficult hike to Mount Rinjani if you are not in good physical condition. Are you looking for an alternative trek in Lombok?

Important note
During your 5-day Lombok Itinerary, you can take a day trip from Senaru to Pergasingan Hill and visit Bukit Selong Rice Field Viewpoint.

Pergasingan Hill Hike

Sembalun is the starting point of the trek. The peak of Pergasingan Hill is 1750 meters above sea level, so you have to climb about 600 meters altitude.

From Senaru to Sembalun by motorbike, the journey takes about 40-50 minutes.

The entrance fee to Pergasingan Hill is 25,000 IDR (1,65 USD) per person. Pergasingan Hill is a popular hiking and camping spot, so it’s worth spending a night there.

If you don’t want to do the Pergasingan Hill hike independently, we recommend booking your trek online through Viator. You can book a guided day hike or an overnight camping adventure.

The tour price includes hotel pick-ups and drop-offs, transport, water, an experienced mountain guide, and all fees & taxes. If you choose the camping option, the tour price includes full board meals and camping equipment (tent, sleeping bags, sleeping mat).

Good to know
Unlike Mount Rinjani, Pergasingan Hill is open all year round! Due to heavy rains, Mount Rinjani is closed from mid-January to March.

How to Visit Lombok

Day 6: Leave Lombok Island or Continue your Lombok Itinerary

In the morning, hike down from Mount Rinjani, collect your luggage, have lunch, and then travel to your next stop in Lombok or the airport.

We hope you enjoyed your 5-day Lombok Itinerary! But it’s time to leave Lombok and travel back to Bali or continue your Indonesia trip to Java.

There are three ways to get from Lombok to Bali: by fast boat (1.5-3 hours), slow ferry (5-7 hours), and plane (40 minutes).

The easiest way to get from Lombok to Bali is to take a short domestic flight. Bali is just a 40-minute flight from Lombok.

The journey from Senaru to Lombok International Airport takes about 3 hours.

Good to know
You can easily modify our Lombok Itinerary to extend or reduce the days. Most people take a 5-day or 10-day Lombok Itinerary on their first visit.
