The Ultimate Lombok Itinerary for 2 Weeks

Day 1: Arrive at Gili Air, Lombok

Welcome to Lombok! Gili Air is the best place to start your Lombok and Gili Islands Itinerary.

The Gili Islands consist of three small islands (Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno, and Gili Air) located off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia.

How to Get from Bali to Gili Air

The Gili Islands are the perfect escape from Bali for snorkeling and scuba diving enthusiasts. You can get to the Gili Islands from Bali by public ferry, speed boat, and helicopter, or fly into Lombok and travel by boat from there.

The fast boat is the most comfortable and quickest way to get to Gili Air.

Ferries depart from Sanur, Padang Bai, Serangan, and Amed harbors to Gili Air. The fast ferry ride usually takes 2-6 hours, depending on the port, stops, waiting times, and sea conditions.

Day 2-3: Visit the Gili Islands

Good morning! It’s time to continue your Lombok Itinerary!

Visiting the Gili Islands is one of the best things to do in Lombok, so don’t miss it. Its tropical white sandy, palm tree-covered beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters are the perfect places for beach lovers.

The Gili Islands are car-free, and as there are no cars, you can only get around on foot or by bicycle, electric scooter, and horse-drawn carriages.

We recommend exploring Gili Air on the second day and then taking a day trip or snorkeling tour to Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan the next day. Book your snorkeling tour with GetYourGuide.

Which is the Best Gili Island?

  • Gili Trawangan: Gili Trawangan is the most popular and largest of the three islands. “Gili T” is known as the party island. Most accommodations and restaurants are there.
  • Gili Meno: Gili Meno is the smallest and quietest island, perfect for a romantic holiday. Most people take a day trip to the underwater statues of Gili Meno.
  • Gili Air: Gili Air is a blend of the two islands, offering a relaxed atmosphere, stunning beaches, excellent accommodations, and great bars. It was our favorite Gili Island!

In our opinion, each Gili island is unique and well worth a visit! It only depends on your preferences which island is ideal for you.

We have a detailed post on where to stay in the Gili Islands.

Day 4: Travel to Senggigi

Are you ready for one of the highlights of your Lombok Itinerary? Senggigi is a coastal town that is a popular beach destination in Indonesia, boasting beautiful, untouched sandy beaches, palm trees, and crystal clear turquoise waters.

Depending on when you arrive in Senggigi, you can choose to start exploring or relax at one of the beach resorts.

How to Get from the Gili Islands to Senggigi

From the Gili Islands, boats run regularly to Lombok. The journey takes approximately 30-45 minutes from Gili Trawangan to Bangsal Port, and boat tickets start from 10 USD per person.

Senggigi is just a 35-minute drive from Bangsal Harbor.

We traveled by boat from Gili Air to Senggigi, and the journey took 20 minutes to Bangsal Port. The boat ticket was 6 USD per person, which included a hotel shuttle service in Senggigi.

Good to know
The boats don’t usually leave at the exact departure time, as they leave when they are full, so you should arrive at least 30 minutes before departure!

One of the best things to do in Senggigi is to rent a scooter and discover the coastline and beaches on your own. This is the best way to find hidden gems, the best restaurants, or meet the locals.

As there are many beautiful photo spots along the way, allow more time to get from one place to another!

In Senggigi, two beaches you should not miss: Nipah Beach and Pandanan Beach. Trust us, you will not be disappointed by their beauty.

Senaru is a small village that is the gateway to Mount Rinjani for hikers. It is famous for its beautiful hiking trails, stunning waterfalls, and lush rice terraces.

As the journey time is short, after arrival, you can visit the Senaru traditional village and explore some of the most beautiful waterfalls in Lombok.

Day 8: Mount Rinjani Tour

Are you looking for an unforgettable adventure on your Lombok Itinerary? At 3,726 meters, Mount Rinjani is one of the highest peaks in Indonesia, where you can do an epic crater rim hike. This is the most popular and challenging hike in Lombok.

Depending on your time, fitness level, and budget, you can choose a 1-night or multi-day Mount Rinjani tour. The most popular option if you’re short on time is a 2-day, 1-night trek, but if you want to get the most out of your experience, we recommend booking a 3-day, 2-night hike.

The entrance fee to Mount Rinjani National Park is 150,000 IDR (9 USD) per person per day. You can start your epic hike after paying the entrance fee and registering.

On this day you will spend the night on the mountain.

We do not recommend the difficult hike to Mount Rinjani if you are not in good physical condition!

Best Time to Visit Lombok

Indonesia has two seasons: a dry season and a rainy season. Lombok is a popular tourist destination all year round. But the best time to visit Lombok is during the dry season, from May to October. The weather is sunny and dry during these months, perfect for swimming, hiking, and exploring the island. August is the driest month.

Lombok has a tropical climate with high humidity, and the average temperature is 28°C all year round.

The busiest months are July and August. In high season, we strongly recommend booking accommodation, ferry tickets, and tours in advance.

We did this 2-week Lombok Itinerary in May, and the weather on the island was fantastic.

Use iVisa to check if you need a tourist visa for Indonesia and apply for an e-visa online.

Lombok Itinerary Guide: FAQ

How to Get to Lombok

Most people come to Lombok from the Gili Islands or Bali and start their Lombok Itinerary. There are three ways to get from Bali to Lombok: by fast boat (1.5-3 hours), slow ferry (4-8 hours), and plane (45 minutes).

TIP
Use Skyscanner to find cheap flights to Lombok, Indonesia.

The fast ferry or plane is the most comfortable and quickest way to get to the island. We have a detailed post on how to get from Bali to Lombok with all the information you need.

It’s good to know that during the rainy season (from November to April) or when the sea conditions are bad, the boat schedules can change and be delayed a lot, so plan your trip to Lombok!

How to get to Lombok

Is Lombok Worth Visiting?

Absolutely! It was one of our favorite places in Indonesia. We loved exploring the island because it’s much calmer and less crowded than Bali.

Is it Safe to Travel to Lombok Island?

Yes, Lombok is generally safe. However, petty theft sometimes occurs on the beaches, so always keep an eye on your valuables while swimming.

Currents and waves around Lombok can be strong and unpredictable, so be careful when swimming or snorkeling.

Always stay hydrated, use sunscreen, and don’t forget to get travel insurance!

If you rent a motorbike, drive carefully, always wear a helmet, and avoid driving at night.

How to Get Around Lombok

Getting around Lombok is easy. Unlike Nusa Penida, Lombok has good paved roads.

The best way to get around on your 2-week Lombok Itinerary is to rent a scooter or hire a private driver.

Book a private customized tour via Viator or GetYourGuide.

We rented a motorbike and explored Lombok at our own pace. Scooter rental starts from 65,000 IDR (4 USD) per day, but we don’t recommend paying more than 85,000 IDR (5 USD). If you rent a scooter for several days, ask for a discount!

How many Days do you Need in Lombok?

Most people choose a 5-day Lombok Itinerary for their first visit. We think 14 days is more comfortable for exploring Lombok Island, but you can do this route in 10 days!

Is Lombok Cheaper than Bali?

In fact, the prices are very similar to Bali. Prices are even higher during the peak season (from July to August), so avoid these months if you want to save money!

TIP
Save money, avoid ATM transaction fees when going abroad, and pay in local currency with a Wise Card.
